On Happiness
Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm
and our intelligence aglow. Work without joy
shall be as nothing. Resolve to keep happy,
and your joy and you shall form an invincible
host against difficulties.
The reason why God permitted me to lose both
sight and hearing seems clear now-that through
me He might cleave a rock, unbroken before and let
quickening streams flow through other lives deso-
late as my own once was. I am content.
